Your team has built a spreadsheet to work around the software you pay for.

System/Product Design

Design and build the system around how the work actually happens, rather than bending the work to fit the software.

There is a spreadsheet. There is always a spreadsheet. Somebody built it because the system you pay for does not do the thing the business actually needs, and now the spreadsheet is load-bearing and lives on one person's laptop.

That is not a connector problem. Joining up two tools that both fit badly does not produce a good fit. What it needs is the system designed around the work: the real stages the work moves through, the real information people need in front of them, and the real decisions they make.

I design it with the people who do the job, build it, and leave you owning it. The spreadsheet gets to retire.

Whether this is for you

A good fit if

Businesses where the critical process lives in a spreadsheet, a shared inbox or somebody's head, and where off-the-shelf software has already been tried and has not fitted.

Not a fit if

If something on the market genuinely does the job, I will tell you to buy it. Building is the right answer less often than the person selling the build would like.

What you get

  • A system designed around your actual process, not a generic template
  • The workaround retired, with the knowledge out of one person's head and into something documented
  • Access, data and documentation held by you

What it costs

Fixed price agreed at the end of the design phase. Larger than an automation build because the design work is real, and still phased so you are never committing to the whole thing at once.

How the work runs

Five phases, each ending with something you can read, disagree with and sign. Nothing starts before the last one closes, and the price is fixed at the end of phase two rather than guessed at the start.

Questions people ask

Should I just buy something off the shelf?

Possibly, and if something on the market genuinely does the job I will tell you to buy it. Building is the right answer less often than the person selling the build would like. The real question is whether what you need is actually unusual, or whether it only feels unusual because nobody has looked at it properly yet.
